Stacking the Shelves #128

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks.

Books I added to my shelf this week:

(Ignited #1)
Desni Dantone

Seventeen year old Kris Young is on the run from a throng of superhuman golden-eyed freaks hell-bent on seeing her dead, and she doesn't know why. Good thing she has her guardian angel to protect her...sort of.

Kris is aided by Nathan, the mysterious man that ends up being anything but angelic when he rescues her for the fourth time in fourteen years. Even if the handsome hero illusion is shattered by his harsh treatment of her, he knows how to fight this strange enemy and is determined to keep her safe at all costs.

As the body count rises in their wake, Nathan introduces Kris to a world in which not everyone is human and the battle lines between good and evil are clearly drawn. Kris's piece in the puzzle is something neither is aware of and, as they uncover the truth, neither is prepared for what they find. Overcoming twists and revelations that shatter both of their lives, they discover that nothing is as it seems and nothing, least of all their hearts, are safe.

From debut author, Desni Dantone, Ignited is the first novel in a tale of first love, mystery and adventure that will introduce you to an exciting new world as Kris discovers how she fits in it.

Romeo and Juliet

Why Romeo and Juliet?

I picked this book up for two reasons.
1. My son has to read it for his English class this year.
2. I read it when I was his age and am curious to see if I understand Shakespeare's writing better now that I'm older.

So... what goodies did you add to your shelf this week?

Swoon Thursday #172 ~ Talon (Talon #1) by Julie Kagawa

Swoon Thursday was first bought to us by YA Bound.
Since they are no longer with us, Naomi @ Naomi's Reading Palace has kindly created a central meet up point for those of us who wish to continue to share our swoons.
So ladies (and any gents who feel so inclined) please leave a comment below, and then head on over there to link up and spread the love.

* ~ * ~ * ~ *

My Swoon for this week comes from:

(Talon #1)
Julie Kagawa

First - The Blurb:

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret St. James has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey — and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him — and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

Second - The Swoon:

"Kiss me," I whispered. Make me forget, for a night, that this isn't real. Make me believe that this could be my life. That I'm not betraying everything I know to be here, to feel like this.

Ember bent down. Her lips touched mine, and my doubts vanished. The soldier disappeared. Everything disappeared, except her. I felt nothing but her hands on my skin, her lips, her body pressed against me. I kissed her until I was consumed with her, searing this moment into my consciousness, driving away the soldier and St. George and everything about the war. I would get back to it tomorrow. Tonight, I wanted to be normal.

Tonight, Garret the soldier didn't exist.

Ember is not your normal teenage girl. She is a dragon who is capable of taking human form. At the end of their basic training and set to take their place in Talon, Ember and her twin brother, Dante, are sent to spend the summer with a human family. Learning to blend in with human society is paramount to the survival of all dragons and this time is a way to test how well they have assimilated. At first, all seems to go well. Ember is making friends, learning to surf and generally having fun. No one suspects her true heritage. Or so she believes.

Garrett, a young boy who appears like he fits into the summer crowd, forms a friendship with her. Only, like Ember, he is hiding his true identity. A soldier of the Order of St. George, an organization whose sole purpose is to rid the world of all dragons, Garrett has been assigned to track Ember, reveal that she is one of the despised reptiles, and kill her. Seems easy enough for the 'Perfect Soldier', that is, until he discovers that he has feelings for her. Suddenly, things are no longer black and white, and Garrett must make a decision which could ultimately cost him his life.

Oh, and let us not forget to mention Riley, a rogue dragon who has abandoned Talon and everything it stands for. Popping up at regular intervals as a hot biker, he befriends Ember, and through their conversations, begins to make her question everything she has been taught. Torn between truth and lies, she too, must make a decision which will alter the course she is on.

As the story unfolds, the lives of these three individuals becomes more and more entwined. Will they remain enemies, or in the next instalment - Rogue - will they suddenly be all fighting on the same side. I can't wait to find out.

An excellent read.

My rating: 5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 72 ~ All the Broken Places (The Healing Edge #1) by Anise Eden

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I'm waiting on:

All the Broken Places
(The Healing Edge #1)
Anise Eden

Expected publication: February 16th 2016

All of Cate's problems are in her head. That may be her greatest strength.

Cate Duncan is a promising young therapist, dedicated to her work. But after her mother's suicide, she is seized by a paralyzing depression. To save her job, Cate agrees to enter a program with Dr. Angeline MacGregor, run by her stern son, Ben, and housed in a repurposed church. Cate doesn't quite understand what the program entails, but she soon learns that the skills she will develop there may not only help her learn how to cope with her own problems, but will also lead her to a much greater purpose.

The MacGregor Group is a collection of alternative healers whose unconventional approaches include crystals, aura reading and psychics. They know that their life's work invites skepticism, and welcome the chance to prove naysayers wrong. But they need the unique abilities that Cate can bring, and as she slides ever closer to her own abyss, they will do everything in their power to protect Cate from those who wish her harm -- including herself.

A powerful novel of suspense and a wildly inventive start to The Healing Edge paranormal romance series, ALL THE BROKEN PLACES engages readers with its striking blend of the supernatural and the psychological.

Kimberley Reeves

First - The Blurb:

When I’m broken and nothing seems to make any sense, I go back to the ranch, to my beautiful Jessie. Jess…fixes me, makes me whole again.

Those were the words written in Adam's journal shortly before he died. His twin brother, Mitch, has never met Jessie, but believes she must be some kind of woman to glue his brother back together time after time. Now it is up to Mitch to tell her that Adam is gone, that he will never again return to her waiting arms. He doesn't want to tell her, doesn't want to be the one to break her heart, but what choice does he have?

On the drive to Jessie's ranch, Mitch devises a way they can both put closure on Adam's death. Posing as Adam will give Jessie one last time with him. Mitch can give her the memories she deserves, let her hear the words Adam should have spoken to her when he had the chance. And in the process, maybe Jessie can ease some of the ache in his own heart.

It is a simple plan; give Jessie a lifetime of memories, mend his own broken heart, then leave and send word of Adam's death. But the moment Mitch arrives at the ranch, his plan begins to fall apart. Jessie is everything his brother said she was, everything Mitch could ever hope for in a woman. Now he must spend the rest of his life pretending to be Adam, or tell Jessie the truth and risk losing her forever.

Second - The Tease:

Mitch's hand slid up around her waist to her back and pulled her closer. "I love you," he said thickly.
Jessie curled her fingers around his neck and pulled him down to her. "I love you, too." She brushed her mouth against his in a slow, seductive sweep. "Have I ever told you how incredibly sexy you are?" His response was little more than a low, masculine groan as Jessie traced his lips with her tongue. "Or how just looking at you makes my heart race." She left a trail of moist kisses along his firm jaw line and down the side of his neck. "Or how the scent of your skin drives me half crazy with desire." Another low moan rumbled deep in his chest. "Or how..."
"Perfectly we fit together," he finished for her as his hand glided up her thigh and slipped beneath her dress.

This is one of those stories that starts off with good intentions, and after a few minor bumps, ends with a HEA. A light read but a little long winded at times.

My rating: 4 out of 5

TBR Tuesday #134 ~ Within These Walls (The Walls Duet #1) by J.L. Berg

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Within These Walls
(The Walls Duet #1)
J.L. Berg

Within these walls, he became my solace, my sanctuary and my strength.

I am not strong. I am just a survivor of circumstance.
Isn’t that what we all do? Survive?

Each of us has our own set of circumstances to muddle through. Mine are just more…complicated. Born with a severe heart defect, I’ve seen the inside of a hospital room more than my own bedroom.

I was drowning, a prisoner to the illness that owned me, until he appeared. He thinks he’s blocked out the world with his tattoos and hard exterior, but I see the real Jude, the one he so desperately wants to forget.

But is he the answer to my prayers or will he break my already damaged heart forever?

My name is Lailah Buchanan, and this is our story of hope, redemption and sacrificing it all for the one you love.

So now it's your turn.
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.
