Book Boyfriend for the Week #9 ~ Jacks from Immortal City by Scott Speer

This is a meme created by Reading and Things for bloggers to talk about there book boyfriends and tease the readers with things they've said.

Want to participate?

Then all you have to do is:

1) Pick a book boyfriend, it can be from the book your currently reading or from one you've already read.
2) Write what kind of boyfriend he is, and if you want, say why you think that.
3) Pick a quote from his book, long or short, that proves he is the kind of boyfriend you said he is.
4) Make sure the quote, and the explanation DO NOT give away anything from the book (we want all of the twists and plot surprises to remain surprises).
5) Share it! And shout it out using the #Reading and Things.

My Book Boyfriend this week is:

Jackson (Jacks) Godspeed

Jackson is gorgeous, sexy, sweet...
and an angel (my favorite type of paranormal being)
What's not to love?

Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city filled with them.

He's days away from becoming a full Guardian, and people around the world are already competing for the chance to be watched over by him. Everyone's obsessed with the Angels and the lucky people they protect - everyone except for Madison Montgomery.

Maddy's the one girl in Angel City who doesn't breathlessly follow the Angels on TV and gossip blogs. When she meets Jackson, she doesn't recognize him. But Jackson is instantly captivated by her, and against all odds the two fall in love.

Maddy is swiftly caught up in Jackson's scene, a world of glamour, paparazzi - and murder. A serial killer is on the loose, leaving dead Angels' wings for the police to find on the Walk of Fame. Even the Guardians are powerless to protect themselves in the face of this threat & and this time it's up to Maddy to save Jackson.

Here's a little Taste:

"Self-preservation!" Maddy screamed. The words rushed out of her as if some internal dam had  finally broken. "Don't you get it? I have to keep myself away from you so I don't get sucked into the illusion that you might actually like me," she said, water dripping off her lips. "I can't let myself believe you actually have feelings for me, Jacks. If I do that, I'll wake up one day and realize that you're a famous Angel and I'm... I'm Nobody." She felt a lump rising in her throat and swallowed it down hard. She wasn't going to let him see her cry. "My life hasn't been easy like yours, Jacks. Things like this don't happen for me. So, I've just learned it's easier to push them away."

Jacks stared, astonished, through the downpour. "You have to keep away from me? I have to fight to keep away from you. Do you have any idea how hard this has been for me? I meet you one night, and just like that, I can't get you out of my head. When our hands touched, and I saw this... streak of beauty in your eyes... I'd never felt anything like that before, nothing even close." He began to pace furiously, the rain flicking off him as he went. "All of a sudden, every fiber of my being is drawn to you, to be with you, and I don't know why," He stopped and pointed an accusing finger at her. "I didn't ask for this. But I felt something in that back room with you, and it's stayed with me ever since. I want to be with you. I need to be with you."

My Swoon for this week comes from:

Tremble
(Denazen #3)

by
Jus Accardo

First - The Blurb:

Dez Cross has problems. She’s almost eighteen and on the verge of losing her mind thanks to the drug Denazen used to enhance her abilities. People close to her have turned their back on the underground and are now fighting for the wrong side. And then there’s Kale... Things couldn’t get any worse.

Until of course, they do. Denazen is about to start a new trial—this one called Domination—and it works. But that means out with the old and in with the new. The order has been given to terminate all remnants of the second trial—including Dez. The good news is that there’s a survivor from the original trial. A woman who’s blood may hold the cure for the second generation of Supremacy kid’s defect. But the underground Sixes aren’t the only ones who know about her….

Cross is willing to throw everything he has to keep Dez from getting the cure—including the one thing that might tear her apart from the inside out.

Second - The Swoon:

I opened my mouth to speak but could only gasp when he leaned even closer. Icy blue eyes kept me rooted as his jaw tightened. It was like he was concentrating. Trying hard to see me - really see me. "You're right. I am lying. I have strong feeling for you. I just don't know if they're good or..."

He never finished. Instead, he mashed his lips to mine, fingers gripping my hips hard enough to guarantee bruises. I could barely move - barely breathe - but I didn't care. If I was going to die, then this was how I wanted to go out. He might not be 100 percent my Kale, but Kale was Kale. I would take him any way I could.

One minute we were pressed against the back driver's side door, the next we were scooting toward the trunk, lost in each other. Our lips never broke contact. Not as he hefted me onto the trunk or as I wrapped my legs around his waist, securing him tightly as his fingers wound through the belt loops of my jeans.

He kissed me as though I were life itself. Precious and balanced precariously on the edge of everything. With each passing moment it grew more heated. It were as if he was waking up from an eternity of sleep and trying to make up for the time we'd lost. He was Sleeping Beauty and I was the prince.

Third - My Thoughts:

What can I say, I'm absolutely loving this series. Can't wait for the next Installment due for release in 2014.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

My Tease for this week comes from:

Toxic
(Denazen #2)

by
Jus Accardo

First - The Blurb:

When a Six saved Kale's life the night of Sumrun, she warned there would be consequences. A trade-off. Something taken for the life they gained. But Dez never imagined she'd lose the one thing she'd give anything to keep... And as if it's not enough Dez finds her immunity to Kale fading, the Six brought in to help Kale learn to control his killer touch starts drooling on him the moment they meet. Worse than that? Jade can touch Kale. But bimbo Barbie is the least of Dez's problems.

After Dez and Kale got away at Sumrun, her father lost not only his most powerful weapon but an important piece of the Supremacy project. Forced by Denazen to remedy the situation, he poisons Dez and offers her a choice--surrender to Denazen for the cure...or die. Determined to find a solution that doesn't involve being bagged and tagged--or losing someone she loves--Dez keeps the poison a secret. But when a rash of Denazen attacks hit a little too close to home, Dez is convinced there's a traitor among them. Jade.

Sacrifices, broken promises, and secrets. Dez will have to lay it all on the line if there's any hope of proving Jade's guilt before they all end up Residents of Denazen. Or worse, dead..

Second - The Tease:

The kiss built slowly, all-consuming and raw. I was flying. The warm sensation creeping from my stomach to my spine and through my limbs was like mainlining pure adrenaline. It stole my breath while somehow breathing new life into me.

"I like the feel of your skin when it's wet," Kale whispered into my mouth as the rain kicked up again. He pulled back a bit and caressed the outline of my jaw, then let his fingers drop to the neckline of my tank top. "But wet clothes are annoying. They make it hard to get to you."

Third - My Thoughts:

I was first introduced to Dez and Kale in Touch (Denazen #1). Dez is high spirited and not afraid to go after what she wants. Kale is gorgeous but a little out of touch with the real world. The chemistry between the two of them is amazing. Unfortunately, things turn a little rocky when Dez's immunity to Kale's deadly touch begins to wear off. To help Kale learn to control his ability, they bring in a Six called Jade. She's smart, pretty and instantly attracted to Kale. Able to touch him without the fear of being turned into dust, she does her level best to try and steal him away from Dez.

Fortunately, Kale's heart belongs to only one person, and nothing and nobody is ever going to change that for him.

While struggling to fight her insecurities as Jade and Kale spend more and more time with each other, Dez suddenly finds herself with a bigger problem to deal with. During a run in with some of the Denazen thugs, she is poisoned. Stupidly though, she doesn't tell anyone, at least not at first. Slow acting, it takes time for the poison to spread, and in that time Dez must make a decision - save herself, or the man she loves.

If you read Touch and enjoyed it, you won't be disappointed with Toxic.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5
