My Swoon for this week comes from:

Let Love In
(Love #1)
by
Melissa Collins

First - The Blurb:

What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Second - The Swoon(s):

"You've completely knocked me off my game. I've never met anyone like you, and it scares the shit out of me. It's like you don't see me."
My brow furrows in confusion and I move to interrupt , but he continues before I get the chance.
"You don't see me - you see straight through me. You see beyond the outside, and it's like you see the me that no one else sees. I saw it in your eyes that first night I met you, and it knocked me on my ass. I was a goner, and since then I guess I've just been trying to push you away."

I've had this one sitting on my shelf for ages. Finally, it managed to make it's way up to the top of my TBR pile.

It was an okay read, but sadly, not one of my favorites. I found it difficult to connect with either of the main characters and their story, although deep and intense, seemed a little rushed at times.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but if you're planning to read this one, I recommend that you have Book 2 - Let Love Stay - waiting in the wings.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Waiting on Wednesday # 39 ~ Soundless by Richelle Mead

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week I’m waiting on:

Soundless
by
Richelle Mead

Expected publication: November 10th, 2015 by Razorbill

From Richelle Mead, the #1 internationally bestselling author of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, comes a breathtaking new fantasy steeped in Chinese folklore.

For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.

When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.

But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.

Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei’s jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiugo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever...

Teaser Tuesday # 146 ~ Bound (Fire on Ice #1) by Brenda Rothert

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Tease for this week comes from:

Bound
(Fire on Ice #1)
by
Brenda Rothert

First - The Blurb:

College senior Kate Camden has learned to adapt - to her last year of school, to the promise of motherhood, to the fact that she’s doing it all alone. But just when she’s learned to adjust, heartache threatens to break her apart.

Pro hockey player Jason “Ryke” Ryker has it all: adoring fans, a promising career, and a beautiful wife. But when his seemingly perfect life is shaken by tragedy, he’s left questioning whether having it all is ever more than an illusion.

When circumstance brings Kate and Ryke together, they discover they don’t have to hurt alone. Bound by a grief that haunts them both, they must rely on one another to survive heartbreak. But that grief is more powerful than they realize, and the tie that binds them together may ultimately tear them apart.

Second - The Tease:

Tease 1
"This is the prize I want," he said. "Let me spend tonight with your heart instead of your head."

Tease 2
The two of us were bound together by the thread of grief, but it wasn't just our mutual losses that united us. We'd survived them, found each other, and discovered that sometimes, from darkness can come light.

Bound is written from two POV (Kate's and Ryke's). Both having suffered the loss of a loved one, they meet at a grief center and quickly form a connection. Although tenuous at first, their relationship soon develops into more, and slowly, they begin to help heal each other.

There are a few places where the story seemed a little disjointed, but it wasn't a major issue, and for the most part, it is well told. An emotional read worth your time.

My Rating: 4 out of  5

TBR Tuesday # 101 ~ Aurora Sky (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #1) by Nikki Jefford

My good friend Sharrice from Reese's Reviews: My Addiction to Fiction came up with the idea of 'TBR Tuesday'

If you want to join in the fun, then just do the following:
From your book shelf or your e-reader, pick a book that you own that is still on your TBR list. Post it however you want to, then leave a link below so others can see what's waiting to be read.

This week for me its:

Aurora Sky
(Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #1)
by
Nikki Jefford

If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it's to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn't hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora's life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska. Basically she's a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job... by hand.

Now Aurora's only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire.

SO NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!
Leave a comment and tell me what's waiting on your TBR pile.

This week, I added the following two books to my shelf, both from the library:

The Assassin's Blade
(Throne of Glass 0.1-0.5)
by
Sarah J. Maas

Celaena Sardothien owes her reputation to Arobynn Hamel. He gave her a home at the Assassins' Guild and taught her the skills she needed to survive.

Arobynn's enemies stretch far and wide - from Adarlan's rooftops and its filthy dens, to remote islands and hostile deserts. Celaena is duty-bound to hunt them down. But behind her assignments lies a dark truth that will seal her fate - and cut her heart in two forever...

AND...

Throne of Glass
(Throne of Glass #1)
by
Sarah J. Maas

Meet Celaena Sardothien.
Beautiful. Deadly.
Destined for greatness.

In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake: she got caught.

Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament—fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted?

I'm hoping to pick up the next two in the series next week so that I can read them all one after the other.
